Bebek Bengil Ubud Bali

Roxuai : Bebek Bengil Ubud Bali

Don't be affraid of the meaning of the restaurant (it means Dirty Duck), because I can guarantee that the ducks that they cook are clean and taste great. Bebek Bengil or Dirty Duck Diner is Ubud's best knowned duck restaurant for decades. The restaurant is named after a group of muddy footed ducks that ran across the floor when the restaurant was just about to open, and these flock of ducks were their 1st customers, hence the name bebek bengil, or dirty ducks !  There are two kinds of seating at the restaurant: regular tables or bale. We chose the bale, because they are on the back of the restaurant, overlooking the rice field and the view of the mountains.

A good restaurant with good food. I tried the "must try" Nasi Campur Bali and can recommend it - the assortment of Balinese specialties was a good way to try out a lot of the local Indonesian favourites all on one plate - good value at 6 odd dollars I thought. My son really enjoyed the original crispy duck (Bebek Bengil) and when I saw it I wish I has had it too (10 odd dollars) . Of course a BIntang beer goes really well with the local cuisine.

Favorite Dish :

Balinese know their ducks, seriously. This place probably has the tastiest crispy duck I have ever eaten in my life. Even though you probably do not like duck in general, you should try this, period. I'm not a big fan of duck either but this restaurant changed my mind. The crispy duck came with two different kinds of sambal, sambal matah (with sliced shallots) and sambal goreng (cooked sambal). On the side, it also came with a small green bean with coconut dish called urab. It was the most satisfying meal I have ever had for a long time.

As this is the most famous duck restaurant in Ubud, even the prices are on the high side by local standard. The cost for the Bebek Betutu set is Rp187000 and the Bebek Bengil Rp87000. However I find it reasonable given the quality of food and the restaurant upmarket feel. The duck here are very small in size, so i guess that makes the meat more tender. I think the ducks here are free range village duck raised in the farms nearby. Overall the duck dishes here in Bebek Bengil is very good. I guess thats why they are still around today since 1990.
