The new generation of luxury resorts in Bali are ultra-exclusive and very design-oriented. One of the prime examples is Alila Uluwatu. Heralded as the latest Sustainable Luxury Resort in Bali, Alila Uluwatu was built using mostly local materials to reduce its carbon footprint and its impact on the local environment. Even the landscaping was done using mostly local native plants.

Staking a stylish claim on Bali’s rugged Bukit Peninsula, Alila Villas Uluwatu is a cool, contemporary cliff-hanger of a resort which delivers dramatic eco-friendly design in a jaw-dropping setting. Panoramic views over the Indian Ocean complement architecturally striking pool villas, each with serene, minimalist interiors, seductive outdoor living spaces and personal butlers on tap. Stir in a top spa, fine dining and legendary surfing, and it's a delicious cocktail.

The Architects

The architects are WOHA from Singapore. Borrowing heavily from Carlo Scarpa, they have created a design that is simple in planning, yet very rich and stylish in details. The basic forms are rectilinear, augmented by careful detailing to give depth to the structures. Courtyards, sun-screens and gazebos are designed to catch the light and provide visual interest, besides serving as tranquil hideaways for the guests.

As with many Bali high-end resorts, the location is purposely remote and difficult to find. This small road seemed to go on forever before you reach the resort.

The main entrance porch - typically understated, except that here you have a whole coterie of hotel staff to greet you upon arrival.

The Alila Uluwatu is a resort which once you arrive, you don’t want to leave. The rates start at around USD 650 per night, so it is not cheap to enjoy such luxury - but it is definitely worth the money for the location, spectacular design, exclusivity and service. I would definitely stay here if I could afford it !

The Stones Legian Bali is a nice hotel. It is located toward the end of the Jalan Pantai Kuta toward Legian, which is at the rather quite part of Jalan Pantai Kuta. I found the location is ok, as I can still walk to the Beachwalk mall area (which is in the middle of Jalan Pantai Kuta) for about 10-15 minutes leisure walk along the beach.

The rooms are elegantly decorated in natural colors , and equipped with a coffee maker , flat screen TV , and an iPod dock . You can enjoy views of the garden or the swimming pool from the window . Each private bathroom provides shower facilities , hairdryer , bathrobes , and complimentary toiletries .Luggage storage and safe deposit box is available at the front desk 24 hours . You can work out in the gym , relax in the spa and wellness center , or take a walk in the park . In addition to offering laundry and ironing services , the hotel also provides car and bicycle rental service at an additional cost .

Here are how the open lobby looks like. I like the back light that keep changing. Upon arrival at the front desk, they will provided you with towel, which came as a cube and they immersed it into the water and also a Popsicle. The popsicle came in 3 layers if I remember correctly and each came from different fruit flavour.

There is a beach in front of you, Kuta beach which is very famous and also very crowded. So you can swim or surf right in front of the hotel area. Granted some people will argue the beach of the Seminyak area may be better, but if you want everything (beach, shopping, food) within walking distance, this may be one of the good hotel to be at Bali.

Uluwatu Temple, is one of Balinese Hindu Temples located right on the petrifying hill with the crevasse exist in the right and left side. Uluwatu Temple is one of Sad Khayangan (6 biggest temple in Bali) owns magnificent view of the Indian Ocean and sunset as a backdrop. This temple is very amazing where the location is right on the narrow peninsula with deep seawater under it. There area also the group of monkeys dwelling the small forest around the temple and play around the temple area.

On the way to Uluwatu, we will first visit the white sandy beaches of Nusa Dua. Then we continue to Ulu Watu, the holy cliff temple habited by brutal monkeys. From the limestone cliff we have a beautiful view over the sea. On the temple grounds we also have the possibility to see the Kecak (Fire dance)

Kuta Beach is more appropiate for surfing rather than swimming as the waves in kuta beach are large and with riptides present. it was discovered by backpackers in the 1970's primarily as a surfing area too although you could swim in kuta beach, be careful of the stong currents and big waves. You will find avid surfers along the whole length of the beach trying to catch good waves to ride them and although the waves in the Banzai Pipeline in Oahu Hawaii is the best, Kuta beach has it's fair share of avid surfer dudes.

Once a lonely little village on the road from Denpasar to Bukit Peninsula, Kuta is now the tourist Mecca of Bali, popular mainly among the young and adventurous. Kuta beach is one of the first favorite beaches discovered by tourist. Coconut trees line the sand beach as far as the eyes can see towards the north stopped by the runway of Denpasar's airport far in the west. The sunset in Kuta is most breathtaking. On the south, the beach is fenced by the airport's runway, which gives the visitors a breathtaking landing experience. Kuta Beach bustles with tourists' vendors and locals. Legian Street, situated directly behind the row of hotels that face the beach, is lined with shops of all varieties. We can find any Balinese handicrafts here, from the least expensive to the most exquisite; or unique stores such as the leather store staffed by two young Balinese men that will perfectly sculpt a leather jacket. (They are all extremely talented artists). _At night, Kuta is alive with night life. Western influences create discotheques, dance clubs, and pubs. Gastronomical demands inspire a multitude of restaurants, serving traditional Indonesian and Balinese food to various ethnic meals from Japan, Switzerland, etc. As if these were not enough, various Balinese dance performances are staged in Kuta every night. One of the best Kecak performances is found in Kuta.

But for the stronger waves, most surfers go to the beach facing Tanah Lot Temple further north as the waves there are higher and are more powerful.
