Bali is a small island with different types of beaches. Some beaches have big, sharp rocks, created by corals or lava while others are covered with white, yellow, and gray or black sand. You can also find excellent beach front hotels in Bali near some of the top beaches on the island. We are presenting to you here only the most beautiful beaches.
30 Best Popular + Hidden Beaches in Bali
The best beaches in Bali are found in the south: around Kuta, Jimbaran, and the Bukit Peninsula. Some of these are also very busy, of course (particularly Kuta). Hop on a bus or rent a car and you can find some great stretches of sand with few other tourists around. Bali is a year round destination so concern about weather and seasons should be put to rest. That said, the best weather on Bali is usually found from April to September.
Best Popular & Hidden Beaches in Bali
Sanur Beach
Sanur is Bali’s original backpacker resort, but is now much more sleepy than the areas of Kuta and Seminyak, with a more laid-back, traditional vibe. Located on the East Coast of the island, Sanur is easily accessible from Denpasar and, like Nusa Dua, is a popular surf spot during the wet season when the surf isn’t so good on the West Coast.
Sanur Beach Bali
Virgin Beach
The expats had called it White Sand Beach, rather than Virgin Beach, though its Balinese name is Patir Putir. It lies about 5km northeast of Candidasa. Later when I googled “White Sand Beach” I found travellers’ reports listing it as one of the greatest discoveries of their Balinese holidays. But there were also a few taking umbrage at the name. In fact, White Sands probably earned its name because most of the other beaches along this stretch of Bali’s eastern coast are volcanic, black sand. I prefer the title Virgin Beach. Compared to the overcrowded, crassly commercial beaches of Kuta or Seminyak, Patir Putir is unsullied and pristine.
Virgin Beach Bali
Uluwatu Beach
Uluwatu is well-known for the Balinese temple and the cheeky monkeys that live there. But the beach is also famous for its reef break and glassy waves during the dry season. There are Warungs, ding repair shops and surf shops in the cliff, whilst the shingle beach has some cool caves.
Uluwatu Beach Bali
Ungasan Beach
Ungasan: Some of the best things in life aren't free. This strip of beach situated on the southern most point of Bali is quite possibly the island’s prettiest. The only catch is that it'll cost you to enjoy this little slice of paradise. If you’re not staying at either the Karma Kandara resort or the neighboring Banyan Tree resort, the best way to access it is to spend a day at the popular Karma Beach Bali.
The best time to swim is before lunch when it is low tide and you can frolic at ease. Later in the day, the waves become stronger, and the currents will sweep you across to the other beach, should you prefer a little more privacy and don’t mind the lack of deck chairs. Warning: do not laugh off the yellow Wet Floor signs placed on the rocks, they’re placed there for good reason.
Ungasan Beach Bali
Balangan Beach
Balangan on the Bukit Peninsula has a laid-back tropical vibe, with golden sand, wooden beach Warungs and palm trees. Surfers come to Balangan for the reef break during the dry season, whilst non-surfers simply laze on sun loungers and go swimming in the rock pools. Balangan is far from being a secret beach for regulars of Bali, but it is still relatively unknown to most people. It is a surfing beach, but you have quite many small cafés and warungs that make it a great place to enjoy a lazy afternoon. How to find it: Go to Nirmala Supermarket in Ungasan. At the junction, just before Nirmala, turn on the right. Follow through then until you arrive at the beach.
Great wave : Balangan beach Bali
Padang Bai Beach
Padang bai has the best beaches in Bali for snorkelling. This sleepy fishing village on the East Coast of Bali has two great beaches. Bloo Lagoon Beach is a small, white sandy beach over the hill to the left of the town which has coral and scattered rocks. Over the hill to the right you have White Sand Beach, known as Secret Beach or Bias Tegul. This beach is a little slice of paradise, with powder white sand and palm trees.
Padang Bai Beach Bali
Lovina Beach
Lovina beach isn’t well known, and it is on the north of the island. The beach is covered in black sand originating from Agnung volcano-cooled lava. At high noon it’s hard to walk on this beach, because the sand becomes too hot. The first time you step into the water here, the feeling is slightly unpleasant, but it changes quickly to a pleasurable feeling when you start swimming. Ocean currents are absent, and waves are high only during very windy days. This is non-swimmers and children’s paradise. The beach edge is covered with trees with large leaves that protect visitors well from the sun.
This is a quiet area and there are plenty of spots for everyone to enjoy it. Rice fields and small vineyards are right behind the beach. A few hundred meters away is the fisherman’s village full of hospitable locals. The thermal springs with healing, volcanic water and the highest waterfall on the island are only a few kilometers away. Yet, nothing compares to the main attraction: the dolphins coming to the shallow waters at every sunrise. It would be a shame to miss this unique experience and unforgettable opportunity to enjoy these amazing sea creatures.
Lovina Beach Bali
Seminyak Beach
Seminyak Beach is ideal for people watching and activities. Rent a board and learn to surf on the beginner waves, or lie on a sun lounger and soak up the suns rays. Whether you sip on a cocktail at swanky Ku De Ta or crack open an ice cold Bintang from one of the beach sellers, the sunsets in Seminyak are unforgettable.
Seminyak Beach Bali
Canggu Beach
For a beach offering rugged scenery, Canggu has a windswept black sand beach with scattered rocks. If you like to sunbathe in peace and quiet without tourists everywhere, then Canggu is your place. Canggu is popular with both beginner and experienced surfers as well as local expats. It’s a perfect spot to have some lunch and enjoy the feeling of sea spray on your skin.
Changgu Beach Bali
Padang Padang Beach
Padang Padang is host to the Rip Curl Cup surf contest and the break is a very famous surf spot. You can see the beach from the bridge to see whether the surf is pumping. Climb down the narrow stairway and park your towel on the golden sandy beach. the water is safe for swimming because the beach is protected from the waves by a coral reef and if it gets too hot you can seek shade behind the rocks to the right.
Padang padang beach Bali
Bingin Beach
Bingin is a popular surf spot on the Bukit peninsula on the way to Uluwatu. Bingin beach is accessible via steep stairs set into the cliff and when you get to the bottom, you’ll find light-coloured sand, scattered boulders and a rocky reef. There are plenty of wooden Warungs in the cliffs serving Indonesian food with budget accommodation attached. Bingin is not so secret, but it remains quiet and a great place to spend an afternoon. It is a surfing beach, with a dozens small warung right on the beach. Beautiful for sunset. For swimming, it is average though as it is rocky. How to find it? Take Jalan Uluwatu, then just before you arrive to Pecatu village, take a turn right to Jalan Bingin. About 2 km later, take a right turn when you see a billboard for The Calix Hotel. Continue on 500m, pay a small fee for entrance, park your car and walk 10 min to the beach.
Bingin Beach Bali
Jimbaran Beach
Jimbaran Bay is a golden sandy beach with calm, still waters perfect for swimming and bathing. It’s also very popular in the evening for seafood dinners on the beach. Pick out your seafood from the tanks, let them cook it for you, and have a romantic, candlelit dinner on the beach.
Jimbaran beach Bali
Nusa Dua Beach
Nusa Dua is Bali’s self-contained resort with luxury 5-star hotels and a shopping square. The purpose-built resort has lifeguards and security to make holidaymakers feel as safe as possible. Although some of the hotels have private bits of beach, Nusa Dua has a public beach called Pantai Geger, with white sand and waters perfect for swimming. Being on the East Coast of Bali, surfers come to Nusa Dua during the ‘wet season’ because it offers better surfing conditions than other parts of the island.
Nusa Dua Beach Bali
Kuta Beach
Following the line of the city of Kuta, there is a beach of the same name. Waves here are high, and ocean currents are strong, so swimming should be avoided. However, it is perfect for surfers who congregate at this beach in large numbers. This beach is full of locals and tourists seeking a short love affair lasting as long as the vacation. This promenade means that no one, old or young, stays lonely for long. Tourists come here from abroad as well as other parts of Indonesia. Kuta Beach is the perfect place other than the waves are also located worldwide supported with an infrastructure that continues to be improved. As I walked toward the beach of Kuta is no large-scale project whether it be a hotel or also improved roads to facilitate tourists in the tour.
There are restaurants, souvenir shops, and disco clubs right across from Kuta beach. The local “Hard Rock Cafe Bali“ is there, too. You can eat, drink, and spend money here, night and day.If you are looking for peace and quiet you have to go to the west to Seminjak beach. Seminjak is filled with family-friendly hotels with pools, situated in parks full of flowers and trees. Unfortunately, the currents here are also strong and sand is not white, but rather gray.
Kuta Beach Bali
Dreamland Beach
Dreamland Beach (now known as New Kuta Beach) is a beach located on the Bukit peninsula, on the island of Bali, Indonesia. Dreamland Beach is a beautiful panoramic coral beach appointed as best surfing point in Bali located in Uluwatu Surfing Spot area. Dreamland beach is one of the beaches that is a must to visit, whether you own a surfboard or not. This surfer’s paradise is located on the Southeastern coast of Bali. Surfers are allowed at all times, while inexperienced swimmers should stay on the beach, because the ocean currents here are dangerous. You’ll be able to get food and rent a pool lounger here. Spending time on the beach and getting to Ulu Watu temple to observe the sunset is an ideal combo.
